About

DUNE's sound is undeniably heavy and laden with hooks and grooves so catchy it's impossible not to bob a head or tap a foot. Born into the bar scene of Athens, Ohio in 2011, the group enjoyed early success. Yet all things eventually come to an end, or at least a pause The group disbanded in 2016 only to be born anew in 2025 with the addition of a second guitarist, Derreck Whitlatch—a master of ambiance and countermelodies, and a new female lead singer, Erika Galentin, who sang soul and jazz (much like members of Black Sabbath) prior to joining the dark side of fuzz and heavy riffage.

Bands evolve, and DUNE now has an undeniable depth thanks to their new members. DUNE's roots will always lie in stoner rock. Yet, timeless bands that create timeless music always seem anachronistic to their current era. Are DUNE pioneers? Maybe, maybe not, but not many loud-and-low seismic fuzz bands in drop C can make an entire festival audience, beards and ballcaps, bounce to the beat like DUNE. It doesn't matter if you're dressed all in black or tie-dye. You'll move.

Original members include Josh Brown on bass, a staple of the local scene with a signature bass tone all his own. He's a fan of bands like The Sword and Black Sabbath in addition to bands from the subgenre known as "Caveman Rock".

Alex Neff on drums. He possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of music and musicians from multiple genres and yes, his favorite band is Adam and the Ants.

Matthew Toledo on guitar. A fan of all things fuzz, grunge, and modern psychedelia including bands like The Truckfighters, Wand, QOTSA, Brant Bjork. various versions of the Oh Sees, and Soundgarden.
